EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence.
Board Certified or board eligible, American Academy of Audiology.
Clinical Doctorate (Au.D.) or Ph.D.
Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) with effective communication skills.
Five years audiologist experience preferred, educational audiologist experience required.
(Other qualifications and experience, which in the opinion of the Commissioner of Education meet the requirements of the position may be accepted in lieu of the above.)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Experience working with assistive listening devices, FM systems, cochlear implants, Baha, and all styles and brands of hearing aids.
Experience working with students with multiple disabilities within educational and residential settings.
Knowledge of Federal and State requirements for IDEA educational program compliance.
Knowledge of emerging audiologic techniques, technologies, and procedures.
Skilled in the performance of pediatric audiologic procedures, such as conditional play audiometry, and visual reinforcement audiometry.
Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, staff, and personnel from state-wide LEA's.
Ability to organize and conduct lectures and workshops for state-wide LEA's, MSD staff, students, and parents.
Knowledge of applied audiology for educational settings.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Conducts diagnostic testing which includes comprehensive audiological evaluations, tympanometry, acoustic reflex testing, otoacoustic emissions, auditory brainstem response testing, electroacoustic analysis and real ear speech mapping for hearing aids, for current and prospective MSD students and state-wide local education agencies (LEAs).
Prescribes, fits, and monitors hearing aids and FM systems for students as appropriately indicated.
Makes ear impressions and provides custom earmolds and hearing protection ear pieces.
Advises LEA personnel, students, parents, and MSD staff on: hearing loss, the audiological and educational evaluation process, treatment protocols, recommendations, assistive listening devices, communication needs, referrals for speech-language evaluations, and considerations for educational goals and placement, as well as medical issues related to the ears.
Participates in the development and review of student's Audiological and Educational Evaluations and Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
Travels state-wide to: conduct student and classroom observations; provide in-services and workshops, and provide recommendations as a member of the Resource Center's Deaf Education Consultant Team.
Supervises the Audiology Assistant's duties, which include hearing aid cleanings, repairs, maintenance, listening checks, organization of accounts, documentation of the hearing aid loaner bank and FM system lease programs.
Oversees and develops audiological resources for state-wide LEAs, MSD staff, students, and parents.
Performs hearing screenings as required and other related duties as assigned.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
